Diagnosis of Hemorrhoids

If it has been determined that you have hemorrhoids by the bleeding and discomfort that is occurring, you may want to have the symptoms checked by your doctor .  Before going into your doctor’s office for diagnosis of hemorrhoids, you can expect certain things to be part of the checkup for the hemorrhoids.  By understanding what will occur, you will be able to go in prepared and able to receive help for the hemorrhoids. 

One of the things to keep in mind when deciding whether to get your hemorrhoids treated is whether it is important to get a proper diagnosis.  Even if you are certain that you have hemorrhoids, or this is not the first time that this happened, you would still want to be examined for a diagnosis of hemorrhoids.  There are series of other digestive diseases that may be part of the problem that you are having that are more serious.  The bleeding may even be related to cancer, making it important to get checked. 

The first step the doctor will take is to examine the anus and rectum area.  They will look for swollen blood vessels that are the major symptom from Hemorrhoids.  If there are no lumps on the skin close to your anus, they will have to check internally to see if the lumps are found there instead.  The doctor examining the anus area often does this.  He will use a lubricated glove to feel for lumps or abnormalities that may be a result of the hemorrhoids.
 
One of the tools that doctors will often use when examining for hemorrhoids is a proctoscope.  This is a hollow tube that is lit and can move into the area more easily and make it easier for the doctors to see if there are any problems in this area.  This is most often used if the hemorrhoids are internal.  Doctors will also be able to examine the rectum and how it is lined.  If there are any attachments to the lining of the rectum, or abnormalities, then the doctor will be able to safely say that this is hemorrhoids. 

A doctor, if unable to discover the cause or to rule out other digestive diseases will also have the choice of performing a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy.  With this, they will be able to put a hollow tube, similar to a proctoscope in your rectum area as well as colon.  They will then be able to examine not only the frontal area of this, but also the inner intestine area.  If there is another problem, doctors can use this tool to see what is happening to cause the bleeding and discomfort. 

If you have seen signs that you may have hemorrhoids, it is important to get it examined by a doctor for diagnosis of hemorrhoids to make sure that it is not another problem.  Having hemorrhoids may cause bleeding and discomfort.  By knowing if this is the problem, you will be able to move forward to ways to treat your hemorrhoids and not have them get in the way of your everyday life.
