Lidocaine-topical is a generic brand name that can help to solve a variety of problems that cause irritation.  The brand names for this are Lidamantle and Xylocaine.  Both of these are not only used for hemorrhoids, but also for other skin irritations.  This includes things such as insect bites, burns, scrapes, poisonings, and other irritations and inflammatory problems.  When lidocaine-topical is used for hemorrhoids, it normally only used on external hemorrhoids.

Lidocaine-topical medications will usually be found in a gel or cream form that can be applied to the skin.  Directly after use, make sure that you wash your hands in order to avoid complications from the medication.  There is also the possibility of using this as a spray.  If you are using it this way, you will only need to apply a thin layer over the area where the hemorrhoids are irritating your skin. You can then expect that the burning and irritation related to the hemorrhoids will not be as strong or disappear completely.

If you are considering lidocaine-topical to treat your hemorrhoids, you should first consider the possible side effects.  It is best to speak with a health care provider before using the specified treatment.  One of the largest problems that many may have to this particular solution is an allergic reaction to the cream or spray.  You may also experience a stinging or burning when using this medication.  Your skin may also not react to this specific cream and react with redness or a rash.

Another consideration that you should think about is if you have other more serious medical condition.  For instance, if you are pregnant, you should not take this medication, as it can move into breast milk.  It is also not advisable to use this medication if you have heart disease or other serious problems.  Bacterial infections and mucous membranes in specific areas may also cause complications.  It is also not advisable to use lidocaine-topical if you are elderly, as it will lead to problems because of sensitivity on the skin.  It will be important to notify a physician of any of these conditions before you begin using the cream.

If you have external hemorrhoids and are looking into possible treatments, then lidocaine-topical is one of the options that you can look into.  Before you decide to use this cream, gel or spray, you should first look at the conditions and side effects that may apply to it.  After speaking with your physician about this medication, you can determine if it is a possibility for relieving the bleeding and irritation that is caused by hemorrhoids.
